Just read a book by Mohammad Fauzil Adhim, Mencari Ketenangan di Tengah Kesibukan (Seeking for serenity in the midst of busyness). One of its content is “Kebanyakan” (Majority).
This is what I get from that writting. He said ‘Alqur’an often mentions the term of “majority” (for instance… aktsaruhum la ya’qilun) and shows a bad quality of mental, impressionable, not thinking clearly, easy negligent and careless, easily broken the promise, have no faith, fasik, ungratefulll, and easy to get digression.
Majority people are losers. Eventhough Allah doesnt say with “majority word”, but losers in Al-‘Ashr are majority people. Surely every human is lost, except for those who believes, do righteous deeds, and advise one another in righteousness and patience. In Surah At-Tiin, the people safe from asfala safilin is people who have faith, do the right deeds, then reward that never end for them.
Majority people are insensitive, never take heed of events, and easily herded his opinions (sorry i don’t know what kind of word to describe it, perhaps the same phrase like impressionable). Read QS. Al-Baqara : 243. Most whisper (Najwa) and similar to it are rubish. Allah says in the quran An-Nisaa : 114, “No good is there in much of their private conversation, except for those who enjoin charity or that which is right or conciliation between people. And whoever does that seeking means to the approval of Allah – then We are going to give him a great reward.”
“All words from Adam’s children incriminate them, except who remember Allah ‘Azza wa jalla, enjoin to ma’ruf (goodness) and forbid munkar (evil deed)” – HR Ibnu Mardawih by Ibn Katsir.
Follow the logic of the majority people will lead us to stagnation, decadence, and even destruction. So that’s why, the ummah need an expert and qualified ‘Amir (leader) to handle many problems. They must have capability of reliable, according to his responsibilty. If matter isn’t handled by its expert, wait for its destruction.
The first time when I finished read that writting, my mind correlates it with the hadits about strangers. Abu Hurayrah who said: The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said: “Islam began as something strange and will revert to being strange as it began, so give glad tidings to the strangers.” – HR. Muslim (145)
So, i think (my thinking can be wrong 🙂 ), it doesnt matter when we are being strangers among majority people who do the wrong things (munkar). I know, it feels lonely somehow, but keep your faith and keep your mind and soul in the right track. 🙂 It will be hard, though. So, Don’t be one of majority people who are losers. Be the winner.
And the closing statement from Sayyidina ‘Ali ibn Abi Thalib is ” Athi’il ‘aqila taghnam, wa i’shil jahila taslam ” which means Obey the reasonable person, surely you will be lucky, and stay away from the opinions of the ignorant (fool) people, surely you will be safe.
Pray to Allah, may Allah always shows us the truth and blesses us in our daily life. Aamiin, alahumma Aamiin..
